Seat’s Diesel is World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx’s Biggest Concern

Britain’s reigning two-time World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx has questioned the actions of the sport’s rulemakers ahead of the title-deciding season finale in Macau this weekend.

BMW driver Priaulx heads to the Far East level on points with SEAT’s Yvan Muller, who has come from a long way back to be tied with the Guernseyman on 81 points after changing his engine mid-season.

Priaulx said: “”Things have changed now that they’ve brought this turbo diesel engine out, and clearly they’ve got a technological advantage. I don’t like the rules that allow this to happen really. There are so many restrictions on what you can and can’t do [with existing engines], then suddenly you can bring in a diesel turbocharger.

The 32-year-old suffered a scoreless weekend at Monza last time out to blow the title race wide open

Four other drivers will be hoping they can bag the title at the famous street circuit this weekend, with Augusto Farfus (BMW), James Thompson (Alfa Romeo), Jorg Muller (BMW) and Nicola Larini (Chevrolet) all in touch with the leaders.

However, with the nearest of those challengers, Farfus, 10 points behind the leading duo, Priaulx admits that he will only have eyes for the SEAT man this weekend.

He said: “There’s other drivers that can win it but I’m not really looking at them very much. I think the title fight is going to be between myself and Yvan.

“I’m very motivated and very fired up. This type of adversity brings out the best in me, so I’m looking forward to finding the edge that I need. If I can do my best in Macau then the championship is wide open.

“It’s a big, big weekend. A whole season of racing and it all comes down to Macau. I love that challenge and I’m looking forward to it.”
