Mitsubishi Concept RA - 200hp AWD Diesel Beast

Mitsubishi Concept-RA

Wow, it looks like a cross between a new Lancer Evo and a Lamborghini. Please build this, Mitsubishi. I would buy it and do 3000rpm clutch dumps racing till I broke it (which would probably take a while considering parts come from the Evo and it’s a diesel) and then be smiling ear-to-ear as I went to the dealership to buy another. Can’t wait to see what happens with this in the future.

DETROIT — In what could be a glimpse at the next-generation Eclipse sport coupe, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will show the Concept RA in January at the Detroit auto show.

The sleek, low-slung coupe is a performance-oriented green machine. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.2-liter diesel engine rated at 201 hp. The engine drives all four wheels through a dual-clutch automated manual transmission.

Mitsubishi says the engine meets strict new emissions standards with a catalytic converter that combines a diesel oxidation catalyst with a diesel particulate filter and an oxides of nitrogen trap.

Concept RA also has active steering and suspension, which changes based on vehicle speed and road conditions. The car’s aluminum frame and plastic resin body panels reduce weight.

In the past, Mitsubishi has signaled the direction it plans to take with the long-running Eclipse sport coupe by showing early versions as concept cars.

BMW already has a 2.0L diesel at 200hp.

Yeah but the Bimmer doesn’t have all wheel drive to handle all the torque. I think this could have some serious fun potential.
