Celebrity, comedian, car-lover…add one more to the list: biodiesel advocate. Jay
Leno helped design a 700-horsepower concept car, which runs on biodiesel – the
EcoJet. The Tonight Show host owns the GM vehicle that is setting off today with
Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, and with some National Biodiesel Board (NBB) backing.
In addition to its biodiesel use, the EcoJet will travel from city to city on a
truck that runs on B20. Don Scott, of the NBB staff, is traveling on the tour to
help with fueling and with educating the masses of car enthusiasts about biodiesel.
The NBB formed its association with Leno when CEO Joe Jobe was asked to visit Jay’s
Garage (http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/), Leno’s Burbank, Calif., garage that houses
his massive car and motorcycle collection. Leno has recognized New Holland, last
year’s winner of the NBB Innovation Award, for its approval of B20 blends in its
diesel equipment. Leno bought a New Holland tractor for the garage.
The EcoJet will be showcased at CMA Fan Fair on June 10 in Nashville. Jobe will also
be there, as a participant for New Holland’s and country singer Michael Peterson’s
Celebrity Tractor Race.
