The world’s first horizontally-opposed turbo-diesel engine, with a claim of providing exceptional refinement and smoothness, made its debut this week at the 77th Geneva International Motor Show on the Subaru stand.
Subaru believes passionately in its ‘boxer’ engines, which are more compact than in-line units and provide a much lower centre-of-gravity. This is claimed to reduce body roll for safer cornering and also enhances handling precision such as during a sudden lane-change manoeuvre on a motorway.

The Ooltewah, Tenessee based Chili Pepper Racing organisation has confirmed that it will become the first team to race a diesel powered car in an American professional motorsport series when it enters a Volkswagen Jetta TDI in the American Speed World Challenge Touring Car Championship in 2007.
Bob Wildberger the president of SCCA Pro Racing which organises the World Challenge said, “Chili Pepper Racing has had a strong presence in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Series since 2002. This year we have an opportunity to research and utilize diesel as a Performance Alternative Fuel with Chili Pepper Racing.
