BMW Going to Unveil the New Diesel Mini Cooper D

Mini Cooper D

BMW is going to unveil the most fuel efficient and cleanest Mini yet, at the International Geneva Motor Show on March 8th. Obviously if it’s being touted as the cleanest and most fuel efficient it has to be powered by diesel, and it is.

The Mini Cooper D will be powered by an all new 1.6L turbo diesel boasting an impressive 110hp and 177ft-lbs of torque. The D will also sport an Overboost function too that will give it a quick punch to 192ft-lbs. at only 2000rpms. All this power is going to be channeled through a six-speed manual transmission. 0 to 60 is expected to be under 10 seconds, and it will still deliver 52mpg (64.2mpg by UK’s standards).

The turbocharger used in the Cooper D is a variable turbine geometry design. This should ensure quick and consistent power through the rpms. It will use a common rail diesel injection system with a max pressure of 1600 bar. Combustion chambers have been optimized for the multiple-injection process to prevent unwanted turbulence and provide consistent combustion. Finally the exhaust will pass through a particulate filter before exiting the car. All these details combined is what makes this the cleanest Mini so far.

This is a Europe only car
