Audi Unveils Two Diesel Q7’s

Like Mercedes, Audi is putting stock in diesel for North America. With that they have unveiled two flavors of the Q7 TDI. For those who just need a nice luxo-SUV with good mileage the 3.0L TDI is for you. However, for those of you who know a vehicle isn’t about just getting from point A to point B, then make sure you add another 6 cylinders after that.

The 6.0L V12 TDI doesn’t just haul kids to soccer practice it just flat out hauls. Having 500hp on tap will do that, but even more impressive is the 738ft-lbs. of torque. What does this mean in the real world? It means going from 0 to 60 in less time than a 350Z or about 5.5secs.

The technology was developed for the R10 sports prototype that pretty much swept every race it entered in in 2006. With the emissions control technology it was one of the cleanest, quietest, and most efficient of the pack.

The Q7 powered by the 3.0L diesel V6 with Bluetec should be in showrooms by the end of 2008. There is no difinitive word on when the V12 version will available.

I’ll take one with either … but might need a loan? :-)

Definitely, with the base Q7 at $40K and the top of the line gasser starting at $60K I can easily see the V12 starting at $70K.

You’ll be in a pretty exclusive club if you can afford it though.

Is it me or is that instrument cluster absolutely beautiful? If Audi can bring the US a Q7 3.0L TDi, and beat the pricing of the MB ML320 CDi, I’ll seriously consider it.

While the v12 monster (and v10 Toureg) are awesome vehicles, manufactures need to give us more mileage-centric SUVs … this coming from a guy would thought he’d never buy one.

Either way, it’s a step in the right direction for sure!

It’s not just you, that cluster is gorgeous. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be able to afford it anytime soon.
