Hyundai Motor America Chief Operating Officer Steve Wilhite said he hopes to bring diesel to America. They are currently studying and weighing options as no concrete decision has been made.
“I think when we start to see clean, fuel-efficient, high-performance diesel engines in this market, the American public will adopt that very quickly,” Wilhite said Tuesday while attending the Automotive News World Congress in Dearborn.
I’ll stick with my Jetta but it’s always good to see more choices available.

There are several schools of thought when it comes to next-generation, cleaner-burning vehicles. Some are opting for biodiesel, others are looking toward fuel cells or E85 ethanol. Well, it seems that Volvo is throwing their name into the hybrid hat, as the Swedish carmaker is planning a hybrid version of their C30 entry-level hatchback.
Stuttgart, Jan 31, 2007 - With worldwide sales of 256,895 units (2005: 267,245) in the van segment, DaimlerChrysler AG brought the year 2006 to a successful conclusion. 67,309 units (2005: 70,958) were sold in Germany.
The highlight of 2006 was the production start-up of the new Sprinter in the Ludwigsfelde and Düsseldorf plants, followed by the Europe-wide market launch. Despite a steep start-up curve, it proved possible to stabilise quality at the very high level of the preceding series right from the start. Wilfried Porth, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans product unit at DaimlerChrysler AG: “I am proud of my team, whose united efforts allowed them to fulfil these tasks with great professionalism.” Despite this model changeover, only slightly fewer Sprinters (157,212) were sold than in the previous year (163,677).

Utah State University researchers have developed an approach that takes oil from pond scum and converts it to an algae-biodiesel fuel that could be commercially available by 2009.
Algae, a common variety of which is known as pond scum, can produce up to 38,000 litres of oil per acre and can be grown virtually anywhere.
