Like the rest of the world diesel interest has increased for Australia as well. Renault is bringing out two new diesels for the Australian market. The Renault Megane II will be powered by a 1.9L turbo diesel and the Laguna will get a 2.2L turbo diesel.
Both engines are common-rail designs with fuel pressures up to 1350 bar (equates to about 19,580psi for those interested in the States). The higher the pressure the finer the mist of fuel will be injected which creates a more efficient burn. Renault’s common-rail design is called dCi and they’ve already achieved Euro-IV emissions compliance.
Their advanced multi-vane turbos are setup to virtually eliminate lag while still giving you the passing power needed on the highway. While you’re cruising in the Megane on the highway you’ll also be sipping a measly 4.6 litres/100kms (or about 62mpg) when combined with the manual transmission.Safety is always a priority, and you’ll be happy to know that the Laguna is the first car in the world to achieve five-star safety rating by the Euro-NCAP testers. The Megane not to be too much outdone will get Bosch’s latest ABS electronics.
Estimated retail pricing has not been posted yet.
