Of course this only matters for Europe, but the new Dodge Nitro won’t be getting Bluetec technology from parent company DaimlerChrysler. Surprisingly the Nitro will have a Detroit Diesel turbo four-cylinder supplied powerplant that will be manufactured by VM Motori. This new engine will still be cleaner and greener than previous ones and Dodge expects to sell 80% of their Nitros with diesel in Europe.
Back here in the States we’ll see it with the 3.7L V6 currently in the Jeep Liberty. Of course the Nitro is essentially Dodge’s version of the Liberty only a little bigger. And if you want to have a little more fun with it you can always get the R/T model with the 4.0L 260hp gasser.
Maybe we’ll get to see one in the future as diesels grow more popular here, but as for now it seems we’ll just have to envy our neighbors across the pond.
