Here’s a pretty interesting feature in a South African mining news site.
Basically in a partnership between the EPA, US Army, UPS, International Truck and Engine corporation, and Eaton corporation they have developed a hydraulic hybrid diesel technology.
This new technology , in laboratories, has achieved a 60-70% increase in fuel economy! It does this while simultaneously reducing carbon dioxide output by 40% when compared to a conventional UPS truck.

In more news for Cummins they recently signed a 50-50 joint venture deal with Beiqi Foton. They will be building two types of Cummins light-duty diesel engines for the Chinese market. Each company is set to invest $304 million into the project. The deal, however, will not be complete until Chinese regulators approve it.
The new venture will be able to produce 400,000 diesel engines, and will be producing a 2.8L and a 3.8L clean-diesel engine for the market.
Beiqi Foton is China’s largest light-duty truck maker and produced more than 310,000 vehicles in the last year.
Congratulations to Cummins, Inc. for shipping the 1.5 millionth Cummins Turbo Diesel to Dodge. This shows the growing popularity of the diesel option.
“Producing 1.5 million Cummins Turbo Diesel engines over the past 18 years is an incredible milestone for Cummins. It demonstrates that the American truck buyer not only recognizes the benefits of diesel technology but also believes in the proven performance of the Cummins Turbo Diesel. As fuel prices increase, we expect demand to continue to grow. Cummins is poised to meet the growing demand,” said Dave Crompton, Vice President - MidRange Engine Business.
