DunkirkI noticed in the online edition recently an article touting the future of diesel engines in passenger-type vehicles again. As I read this today, I am sitting in Cheyenne, Wy., and all through the day yesterday I passed numerous fuel stops where diesel was 3.15 per gallon and unleaded gas was 2.74 per gallon. Kind of makes one wonder if this new found euphoria about diesel cars will be nothing but another financial windfall for someone other than the consumer, huh?
Well of course diesel doesn’t look good when you see it as diesel costs $.41 more a gallon, BUT when you realize how many more miles those gallons can take you it’ll make sense. For something like my car, gasoline would have to be about a $1.50 cheaper to break even on miles. PLUS you still wouldn’t have the higher resale value of diesel compared to a similar gasser. Which are both things a consumer should think about when buying a car. OH YEAH and don’t forget to think about the longevity associated with diesel and how they have just started to break-in at the amount of miles alot of gas cars are starting to break-down at.
