Bosch is upping it’s diesel fuel injection systems production because they believe the amount of diesel cars and light trucks will triple in 10 years.
They will also be building more electronic stability systems as it believes they will double to 70 percent of the vehicles in four years.
This is great news for the Bosch Group, a privately held company, whose bread and butter is the European market. They hope to up their sales to a quarter of it being from the US by 2015.

Hopefully I’m helping out Willie Nelson if he still has tax problems with the government. Since I bought my car i’d been running on about 6-7 gallons of diesel I put in, but that has ended and I’m estimating I got about 48mpg. Now that I have a full tank though I should be able to start accurately tracking my mileage. I filled up when the light came on and put 12.5 gallons of BioWillie’s B20 premium diesel in. I’m pretty sure the Jetta has a 14.5 gallon tank so from now on I’ll know when the light comes on I have about 2 gallons left.
It may be in my head or the conditions outside but the engine seems to be just a little quieter or maybe just smoother. I also stopped by my local VW dealership and picked up a few bottles of Stanadyne Diesel Additive. I figure it has to be good if VW recommends it, plus the good folks at tdiclub too. I want this car to last for at least 200K more miles so nothing but the best.
What other additives are recommended or where can you get them? I’ve heard Powerservice and Chevron has one too, but as of yet I can’t locate them.
This weekend the car will get a good claying and coat of Meguiars NXT Polish and then I’ll post some pictures of her.

GM is giving Saab a 1.9L TiD diesel for Australia. It’ll be a common rail setup optional in the 9-3 Sport Sedan and SportCombi, and may eventually make its way to the 9-3 Convertible. Emissions were able to meet Euro-4 compliance and still have 147hp and 235ft.lbs. of torque. The 9-3 will get a combined 37mpg which should mean its highway mileage to be in the 40’s.
The common rail technology provides consistent injector pressure of 1600bar or 23200psi! The Bosch computer will be continually adjusting the number, frequency, and size of the injections. Turbo assistance comes from a low-inertia Garrett turbo at 1.35 bar or 19.6psi of boost. It will use the same variable vane geometry(VNT) as the VW TDI which means it’ll still get up and go at low engine speeds.
Emissions wise they’ve added a self-cleaning particulate filter for the NOx, a secondary oxidation catalyst to lower hydrocarbons(HC), an active regeneration process to bring exhaust temps to 1112 degrees (600 degrees celsius) for burning off soot, and then the normal emissions equipment too.
